The Tz series of 2014 utilizes a symbol called the "Tzolkin" from the Mayan calendar to create a web of patterning, similar to the effect of graph paper, that fosters a structure for exploration of the painting's surface.
I've been fascinated with the culture, art, and architecture of the Mayan people for a while now and find their innovative breakthroughs to be astounding, given the time that most of their developments occurred.
